NSPR

Near Shore Pelagic Research is conducting research on coastal migratory fish.  The idea is, by targeting all types of fish in any given environment, we can then get an accurate assessment of the overall health of that particular ecosystem.  By catching everything from bait fish all the way up the   to the apex predators, it can be determined how healthy an ecosystem is on any given stretch of shoreline.  We volunteer our time out on the sand to conduct this research and document not only our catches and releases, but also vital statistics and atmospheric conditions, then we compile this data and report it to NOAA as well as other local research laboratories.  We are a community of like minded anglers, who believe in the preservation of our seas and oceans.  We conduct this research all over the state of Florida, and in doing so, the information we gather is invaluable.  It allows us us to gage just how healthy our caostal waters and estuaries are by the type and condition of the species we catch.  You too can help in this program, for membership or other information, please email me:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. N S P R or Near Shore Pelagic Research

NSPR came about one night while fishing on the beach.  The idea is that by targeting all types of fish in any given environment, then you can get an accurate overall picture of the health of that particular ecosystem.  By catching everything from baitfish all the way up the food chain to predator and even apex predator, it can be determined how well any given stretch of beach is thriving.  After encountering curious onlookers and answering all their questions on the beaches throughout the years, I thought why not start taking record of our catches.  That quickly grew into more detailed information for our favorite fishing holes, then ultimately NSPR, which now is used by area research facilities throughout the state.  Anyone can help by observation or participation, all you need to do is report catches to us.  I am not looking for your fishing spots, just give me a general location or area.

If you catch or observe the following fish being caught, simply send what information you have on to me:

Bonita, Jack Crevalle, Tarpon, Kingfish, Blackfin Tuna, Wahoo, Pompano, Permit, or any species of shark.

What was it caught on, what condition was it in, was it released, time of day or night, area that it was caught in.
